I Could Have Gone To The Inauguration

My brother in law had tickets but could not go. If I had not been in Disney land I could have flown him there and gotten in with him. That is all past now :( , but at least I got pictures of the invitation for you.

Links And Code From My Affiliate Summit West 2009 Presentation

Wow, what a crazy session. First my laptop display would not get off of dual monitors.. (mostly because my mac keyboard drivers for windows are borked and FN+F7 doesn’t work– couldn’t find a work around in time). So I had to flip everything around and give the demo with my back to the audience while trying to view the actual screen. Things kinda went down hill… PowerPoint wanted to display the sideshow on the primary display (not the big display hooked up to the projector)… So it was slow going. So we skipped most of the slides and went right to the live demo. My laptop froze… luckily it didn’t freeze till people had seen the actual demo.. whew.. But on reboot it was still dead, so no more slides. The rest of the session was me doing Q&A and the rest of the slides from memory. To make matters even crazier, several people started to leave throughout the beginning of the presentation…. But, those that stayed “got it,” and were very zoned in to what we were talking about regarding automation.

Considering how bad things started I think it ended very well. People we asking good questions and I could tell a lot of people were excited about what was available to them as far as automating their daily stat downloads and ppc campaign creation.

My Schedule For ASW 09

The last few conferences I had very detailed plans and schedules.  This time around I have things scheduled a little differently

  1. Show up and give my presentation
  2. Maybe get an invite to a few parties
  3. Bum around

Keyword Grouper

The past several months I have tried outsourcing various things I do regarding PPC.  Some things have worked pretty well (web design, site setup, etc) and some things have gone horribly horribly wrong.  Content generation (gotta have native American’s for an American audience) and keyword grouping.   So I have worked on writing software to handle these tasks.  I’ve worked on a few automated content producing systems, but nothing worth writing home about or posting here.

However I have come up with a keyword grouping solution that I am very happy with.  I’ve been running some private tests for me and my clients and so far we are pleased with the results.  Really all you have to do is paste a big list of keywords in there and submit it for grouping, then wait while the servers crunch the data.  You can download it and learn more here: KWGrouper.com.

At this point I am interested in feedback and thoughts on the Applications UI and export options.  If you want some free credits to test it, thats fine, just let me know.

SocialMedia.com.. Not scammers but are they serious?

I started playing around with SocialMedia.com again. A few weeks ago I was seeing some good results. Then my conversions stopped. Then I get obviously bogus clicks/data….. here… read this and tell me what you think.  The [REMOVED.... ] are my editing.  everything else is a direct copy from their support site.  Now granted it is less then $50 but still they are being a pain about it.

I noticed something weird. One of my ads shows 8 impressions and 494 clicks showing a CTR of 6,175% for 11/14/2008
It is in adgroup Ad Group: [REMOVED] Dimensions are 160×600
AdId 60a814c93461046d0f6f6bda195a6f34 (It has been paused because of this)

That doesn’t seem right (especially since on my end I only show 4 clicks.) Are you just experiencing some hiccups in your tracking?

Do I have to send a special request to get the $49.40 refunded?

John

Hi John,

I was following up on this ticket and I noticed that none of the ads in the ad group that you are referrencing have the statistics that you note in your email. Please verify that you are still seeing this discrepancy and if you are please verify the ad group and ad id.

Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue.

Best,
Lisset

I deleted all paused ads because I was told that I can’t have more then 100 ads in my account and I needed to clear up space to ad more ads. What other information do you need to refund me for the weird traffic?

Look here

http://www.socialmedia.com/network/ppi.php?act=advertisergraphs&adid=[LINKREMOVED]

Even though it is deleted you can still see the bogus clicks.

Hi John,

Thank you for your patience while we worked through this issue.

We have looked into this and we would like to inform you that your account was never charged for this weird activity that your account experienced. The November 17, 2008 total charged to your account was only $32.55. Also, in speaking with our engineers, it seems that this activity that you saw was only a small glitch in the system that momentarily showed click and impression values incorrectly.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Best,
Lisset

If you read the ticket the traffic was for the 14th. Not the 17th.

On the 14th I was indeed charged for this traffic. $92.66 for that day.

Win A Gold Pass To Affiliate Summit West 2009

This is my first blog contest ever.  I’ll be speaking at Affiliate Summit on “advanced concepts for automating daily website tasks (such as downloading stats, uploading changes, etc.) without access to an API.”

What that really means is I’ll be showing you how to automate some repetivie tasks.  I was thinking of showing you a way to log in, download stats into a spreadsheet or database, etc.  But I figured I’d let you all have some input.  Post in the comments below a particular task you would like to see how automate and whichever one I pick wins a free Gold Pass to ASW09 (means you get to come to my presentation).

Here is an example: Show us how to log into site XXXX and download the daily stats per ad to a mysql database.  (or spreadsheet, etc) or show us how to automatically upload a spreadsheet of ads to facebook, etc.

I’ll be going over a few basic techniques such as automating a webform, dealing with AJAX and so on.  All of this will be done with FREE software.  There will be NOTHING TO BUY to use the methods I’ll be showing in my presentation.

So to win, enter what you would like to see for the example used in my presentation and you win a free Gold pass.
